was born in Piraeus, Greece on 22 April 1922. His parents were Panagiotis Coroneos and Aphrodite (nee Coroneos) from Karavas, Kythera, where the family spent many months of the year. Their "paratsoukli" (nickname) was "Faganas". ...

Peter (Paul) Alex Cassimatis



Born in Karavas, Kythera, Greece on 16th February 1935 to Alexandros and Maria Cassimatis.

In 1949 Peter migrated to Australia. He was 14 years old when he arrived; He started work at Warren in a café.

At age 24 he married Helen Sophios in Sydney. Peter and Helen were blessed with three children, Alex, John and Bill.
Sadly Helen passed away in 1971.

At age 48 Peter married Beryl Coroneos ...

Christine Miele

We regret to inform that our dear and much loved friend Christine Miele from Karava, has passed away. Christine lost her battle with cancer on the 7th of August 2011. Theodore Faros

Theodore Faros was born in Karava, Kythera in 1917, the 1st son of John and Katherine Faros. Theodore lived through the depression and like many other Greeks at the time joined the Greek navy in the Second World War and returned to Kythera during the German occupation.

After the war he helped rebuild his island home and at the age of 34 left Kythera and migrated to Australia in 1951 in search of a better life. He travelled to Gunnedah taking up seasonal work and for a while worked ...

Our mother, Effie Zantiotis, was born on 8/5/1916 in Pireaus to Aphroditie and Panagioti Coroneos, (Faganas) - who originally came from Karavas, in Kythera. Mum was the 5th born in a family of 8 children – 4 boys and 4 girls.

At the age of 19 she was betrothed by proxy to our father, George Zantiotis (Zaunders) last son of Emmanuel and Eirene Zantiotis (Yerandis )from Vouno, Kythera.

...or ZAC as he was known to all of us, was born in Taree NSW on 11 September 1925, the youngest child of Kytherian immigrants Kanella (nee Vernardos) and Stavros Souris. His older sister Chris predeceased him.

James (Jim) Coroneos

Jim was born on 1st May 1925 in Gunning, NSW near Goulbourn.

His parents were Christophoros Melasofaos Coroneos & Melopomeni Comino from Karava in Kythera, who came to Australia, where they started a café in Gunning, named The Busy Bee.
