Efrosini Venardos Chlentzos with daughters Kirani and Marigo

Efrosini Venardos Chlentzos and her daughters Kirani and Marigo.
Photo taken approximately 1890.

Efrosini Emmanuel Venardos (Katsavias) was born 1843, in Agia Anastasia, Kythera to parents Emmanuel Venardos and Maria Georga. At the age of 26 she married 18 year old Charalambos Panayiotis Chlentzos (Yiortomilis). The services were performed by Fr. Gerasimos Galakatos on November 9, 1869 at the church of Agios Vasilios in Christoforianika.

Benardos-Bylos

From left to right: Triantafilia (Rosalind) Georgopoulos Benardos; her husband Dimitri Benardos of Proggi; her sister Anastasia Georgopoulos Bylos (married to Nicholas Bylos). All lived in the Sydney area.

The two women were sisters to Emmanuel Georgopulos of Detroit, Michigan, USA.

Kytherians in Detroit, Michigan

A group of Kytherians in Detroit gather to meet with Dr. Fotinos, a Kytherian who was a professor of dermatology in Athens.

Nikolaos Galakatos/Nick Peterson

Nikolaos Galakatos became Nick Peterson in the USA. He was born in 1894 in Christoforianika to Panagiotis Galakatos and Politimi Coroneos. He was the twin brother of Panagiotitsa Galakatou Georgeson.

Nick appeared as an extra in the silent movie "Ben Hur."

Kythera 1951-Chlentzos Family

The second woman from the left is Yannoula Chlentzos (nee Coulentianos1886-1984), the man fourth from the left is her son Harry Diamandis Chlentzos (1908-2001), seated is Harry's Aunt Kyrani Katsoulis (nee Chlentzos).
Yannoula and her husband Diamandis immigrated to the USA. Her first visit back to Kythera was in 1951 when this photo was taken.

Galakatos Familiy Portrait

These are members of the Galakatos family.
From left to right: Kyriakoula, Efrosini, Stavroula, Nikos, Andreas, Evangelos.
Date and place unknown.

From the archives of Stamatoula Chlentzos (nee Mavromatis). Stamatoula was born in Christoforianika in 1906. She has been gracious in sharing her wonderful archive of old photographs. She immigrated to California, USA in 1931. Stamatoula celebrated her 100th birthday in November 2006.

Koulouri Game - Christoforianika

These two ladies married Chlentzos men who were first cousins.

Eleni Coulentianos married Dimitri Chlentzos and Kalomira Moulos married another Dimitri Chlentzos.

According to Stamatoula Chlentzos, who is 100 years old, they are playing a game of, "who will break the koulouri first".
The one who wins is said to have good luck in their marriage.

Chlentzos / Alfieris

Can anyone help identify this person? I beleive it is an aunt of Maria Chlentzos Alfieris in Alexandria, Egypt.
I believe it is the same person as the person on the left in this picture:

Galakatos Kosmas P

Kosmas P Galakatos.
Born about 1857 in Christoforianika, Kythera; died 5 February 1942 in Piraeus, Greece. A trader, importer, exporter in Smyrna with business in Turkey, Russia & Greece.
Son of Polychronis Galakatos & Frossini Motis. Married Panagiota Panaretos; Panagiota Gavrili with whom he had 4 children; then Calliope Zandioti.
