Diakofti 1951

Diakofti 1951
Copyright (1951) Vikki Vrettos Fraioli

From left to right: John Alfieris (1882-1966), his wife Maria Chlentzos Alfieris (1882-1968), Maria's brother Diamantis' wife Yanoula Coulentianos Chlentzos. Sitting on the right with the white hat is Manoli Sofios.

(amended 3-7-2007)
Sitting fourth from the left is Kosmas Antoniou Zaglanikis holding his hat.

Sitting fifth from the left after man holding his hat is Maria Panagiotou Kastrisiou. Sitting on the right is her husband Panagiotis Antoniou Kastrisios.

Standing at the back on left hand side is Vasilios Harilaou Kassimatis(Karinos). He had one of the Buses in Potamos.

The rest I do not know. If someone recognizes the others in this photo, please email me. This was my grandparents first trip back to Kythera, after having immigrated to the USA in 1906-1907 via Alexandria, Egypt.

Coincidentally, a woman named Elena Theo Zaglanikis was my great great great grandmother, who married my great great great grandfather Nicholas Panayiotis Chlentzos (b. 1765). Nicholas and Elena had a son Panayiotis, who's second wife was Kerana Pan Zaglanikis. Perhaps they are related to Kosmas. Thanks Tony, What was your mothers maiden name? I have many old photos of Sirmalina and Panayioti Coolentianos posted at this website: Coulentianos Photos Click on the slideshow button to see them enlarged. You may recognize other people too.

Fabulous! Thank you Antonis! Who would have thought that more than 50 years after this photo was taken, children and grandchildren of the people in this photo would be identifying those in the photo from different parts of the world! The photo was taken on October 9, 1951. My grandparents had gone to Kythera for the baptism of the grandson of my grandfather's brother Vrettos Alfieris. The baby to be baptised was Takis Georgopoulos, son of Nikos (Felias) Georgopoulos and Spiridoula (nee Alfieris) born in February of 1951.

This photograph was not taken in Agia Pelagia but in [Diakofti] because behind appears the island

That is an interesting observation! I see the land beyond the pier. The photo above has been retouched. The original has the date written on it and Agia Pelagia. Whoever wrote it must have been mistaken. Thank you for pointing that out. I've corrected the title above.

Standing at the back on left hand side I believe is Vasilios Harilaou Kassimatis(Karinos). He had one of the Buses in Potamos.
