(right) Yiannis Alfieris (1883-1966) was born in Potamos. His parents were Giorgos Panayiotis Alfieris and Spirithoula Argyri. His paternal grandfather was Panayiotis Alfieris. His paternal grandmothers name is unknown. His maternal grandfather was Yiannis Argyri who carved the “Iero” in the monastary at Agia Moni. It was completed in 1844. As a teenager Yiannis went to Alexandria, Egypt with his father and brothers. In 1903, he married Maria Chlentzos from Christoforianika. He immigrated to Oakland, CA, USA in 1906, and she followed approximately one year later. There are 101 living descendants of John and Maria living in the USA today, mostly in California. left: Vrettos Panayiotis Stellios
