Hi. I am wondering if I can seek your assistance. I am undertaken a PhD in history at the University of Melbourne. Looking at the culinary culture of Melbourne and Sydney in the late 19th and early 20th century through the emergence of restaurants in both cities. One of the forms of public dining I am interested in is oyster saloons. I know that many of the oysters saloons in Melbourne and Sydney were owned by Greek migrants from Ithaca and Kythera. I was wondering whether you might know of anybody in amongst the Kyhterian-Australians who might have undertaken research in Melbourne or Sydney on the Greek owned oyster saloons and whether there might be holdings of archival material or ephemera (eg. menus, posters, flyers etc) that might exist in community or family archives. I am alrady aware of the work by Effy Alexakis and Leonard Janiszewski. Appreciate any assistance that you are able to offer. Thanks in advance. I can be contacted on the above email address or on 0412 103 076.
