The Book Of Vilah will be performing the music from the full performane at the Django Bar in Marrickville, downstairs of the Camelot Lounge - (Cnr 103 Railway Pde & 19 Marrickville Rd, Marrickville (Directly opposite Sydenham Train Station, marrickville side) “. . . his village razed to the ground by pirates on the Greek island of Kythera, motherless and a cruel reminder of his father’s carnage, Vilah was pushed into the monastery. Now, sitting imprisoned in a cell, he paints his life that should of been. These songs are his paintings.” The Book Of Vilah is an original acoustic band telling a story through song. The bands music is an elegant match of each members background both culturally and creatively and has reached into diverse audiences over the past two years. The bands music floats on the edge of many styles, with textures woven from gypsy, alternative, world and classical music however remains uniquely original defying traditional classification. The band at times performs with actor Alex Sideratos who plays the part of ‘Vilah’ in the form of a dramatic monologue. This full show extends the production into a special event which was a highlight of The Greek Festival of Sydney. The Book of Vilah have just released their debut EP and were honoured to have percussionist, composer and ethnomusicologist Tony Lewis record a track with the band.
