Immigrants in the Bush

Published 1989 by the University of New England, Armidale
Project Coordinator: Dr Helen Andreoni
Price Unknown
Description: This is an Education Resource Kit funded by the NSW Multicultural Education Coordinating Committee. It consists of a package of four books, a teacher’s handbook, a couple of charts and an audio tape. Copies were available from the Armidale CAE and the University Bookshop, but you may have some luck through your local public or High School library. Unfortunately the set is under the one ISBN number, 0 7305 1582 6, so the books cannot be obtained separately.

One book (81xA4 pages) is titled ‘Cafes and Café Owners’ by Janis Wilton, mainly compiled from taped interviews she did with four Greeks on the New England Tablelands in 1983. She’s put together a great story accompanied by many old photos of the Greeks of Armidale, Uralla and Tenterfield, their cafés and family tree charts. Plus photos of Kythera landscapes and people.
The audio tape includes the voices of Eleni Dedes (nee Sourry) and Nick Mentis.
