My father-in-law, Emmanuel Fardoulis (originally of Potamos) told me that his grandfather Emmanuel Panagiotis Fardoulis (born ca 1840, died ca 1901) emigrated from Constantinople to Kythera about 1860. His nfather Pangiotis lived in the suburbs of Constantinople. Does anyone have any more information regarding the move to Kythera, or about Emmanuel Panagiotis Fardoulis? Did many migrate around 1860? If so, what was the reason? Was it connected with Greece's independence?
