Pastos Family

I am visiting Kythira, home of my grandparents, for the first time. I am looking for my Grandfather's home. He left Kythira in, I believe, 1914, but maintained his home until his death. It then went to his daughter. His name was Vasilios (William) Pastos. His daughter was Anna Pastos Katsekes. I have an image from 1954 when my father, Constantine, visited. Old, I know. How can I locate this home! I believe my aunt added on to it immensely, but I would still like to visit. Any suggestions? All my thanks. Connie Pastos Rogers

Hi Connie, I've only just now seen your post. Did you have any luck locating your grandfather's former home? My husband's grandfather was Theodoros Pastos (b 1861) and as far as I know the family came from Milopotamos. Susan Dritsas

Hi Susan, Yes, I found the home and enjoyed the visit. How were Theodoros and my grandfather, Vasilios, related? From what I found on Ancestry, Vasilios had 7 siblings but none were named Theodoros. Connie Pastos Rogers

Hi Connie, it's possible that Theodoros and Vasilios are distantly related as they have the same surname, Pastos, but I don't know where the connection is. Interestingly, the name Pastos is apparently a nickname, as the original family name was Koroneos (meaning one who comes from Koroni on the southern coast of the Peloponnese). It was very common in Kythera for a nickname to be adopted as the family name. If you want to trace your family history on the island, I suggest you contact the Kytherian Genealogy Project https://www.kytheriangenealogy.com. According to Ancestry, I see your Vasilios married a Gregoria Malanos. Interestingly, Theodoros's older brother, Iakovos (b 1859), married a Kerana Malanou on 16/2/1900 in Milopotamos. She was the daughter of Georgios and Eleni Malanos, so perhaps we have a connection there too!
