As well as the We Dig Kythira land digs, some of us were also involved in an underwater excavation of the Mentor shipwreck. News of the project has put Kythera on the map this week in terms of Greek newspapers, web sites and TV coverage. Here's a link that explains how to view a nice report about the project by the ERT TV channel. http://krg.org.au/mentor/?page_id=32 The Mentor was a ship that sank off Avlemonas 209 years ago. It was a vessel carrying 17 crates of Parthenon Sculptures/Marbles, taken by Lord Elgin. And a micro site is under construction here: http://krg.org.au/mentor The official Ministry of Culture press release is here: http://www.yppo.gr/2/g22.jsp?obj_id=46372
