"I Xilos" - Tzortzopoulos - Karavas

My Nono - Peter Poulos - was born in Karavas, Kythera - and lived his early life in the house above the Church of Ayios Haralambos - at the end of the "murmaro".
Upon emigrating to Australia, he lived in Canberra, where he married Marouli.
His nickname was "I Xilos" - which roughly translated means - blended together or well mixed - like a soup.
Again, one of his descendants may be able to enlighten us as to how he came to have this nickname bestowed upon him.

Your nono is my paternal grand-dad. Panagiotis (Peter) Tzortzopoulos - "Xilos" + "Douris" Comino He brought nine kids with him from Karava! The children later settled in Sydney, Goulbourn and Canberra. Hope that helps. Nice to meet you.

Dear George, A search of Paratsoukli or nicknmaes in the Kytherian Geneology Project shows that I Xilos does not exist. Our branch of Tzortzopouli nickname is Koroneos. Originally the byname was Koroneos (Also spelt Koronaios)-Tzortzopoulos. When our family moved to Karavas we dropped the first part of the byname and kept Koroneos as the nicknmae. Peter Poulos also known as Panagiotis Tzortzopoulos was my grandfather, he was born 1896 in Karavas, he lived in a house below Agios Charalambos in Marmaro. He married Marouli in 1914 in Karavas. He emigrated to Australia in the early 1920's and again in 1934 and he never returned to Kythera. He spent most of his time in Goulburn and owned the Monaro Cafe. He retired to Canberra. Peter Tzortzopoulos (Georgopoulos) Canberra.
