at the Alecos Fassianos Exhibition in New York, 11th May, 2013/

The sculptor Masaaki Noda created the sculpture, The Open Mind of Lafcadio Hearn.

Alekos Fassianos is a Greek artist of international repute. He draws his subjects from Greek myths, Fayum portraits, Byzantine icons and the shadow theatre. His paintings are also characterised by motion which is emphasised by the hair or cloth waving in the breeze. In his artistic maturity his figures are known for their voluptuousness and the luminosity of the color he uses to highlight the sensuality and the immense pleasure of everyday life.

Next year, to celebrate the 150 celebration of the 1864 re-unification of the Ionian Islands with Greece, Masaaki will instal a sculpture in Lefkada in honor of the Great Lefkadian philosopher (with Kytherian maternal roots), Lafcadio Hearn.

This will coincide with a Symposium to be held in July 2014 in Lefkada. Also attending will be Hearn's grandson Bon Koizumi and the Mayor of Matsue, Japan.
